Located just east of Warrenton, on the Vaal River, the dam was built as part of the Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme. Conceived by Cecil John Rhodes, the idea was to direct water from the Vaal and Harts rivers to a series of canals and provide life to the dry landscape. Today, the system irrigates 1280 farmers and the scheme is known as the second largest irrigation scheme in the southern Hemisphere.
The resort, situated on the N12 just outside Warrenton, offers basic accommodation and is mainly used to accommodate large groups of people. The resort houses the burial site of Sir James Brady who gave the sisters of Nazareth a mission station in the vicinity. The resort has a swimming pool, lush gardens, and five tennis/netball courts, ideal for business and recreational gatherings.
The mission station outside Warrenton was the first Roman Catholic Church in the area. Initially led by a priest and later managed by Irish sisters, it now supports local rural communities. Visitors can book visits to learn about its history and religious work.
The train is located in the Magareng Municipal grounds in Warrenton. The 19Ds were mainly used as passenger trains travelling between Warrenton and Mafikeng and were extensively used as work shunters on numerous South African Railways
